Evolving Priorities of American Voters
  • As the nation prepares to celebrate its 249th birthday and the new administration nears the six-month milestone, Occam took the opportunity to examine the eight most pressing issues on Americans’ minds—and how those concerns have evolved since the 2024 presidential election.
  • Inflation, Immigration, and Jobs/Economy were the dominant issues leading into the election, and they continue to rank as the top three concerns among the public. However, the relative importance of Inflation has declined since November. Jobs/Economy and Immigration remain elevated, although the surge in economic concern driven by early-year tariff tensions has since moderated.
  • One of the more surprising developments is the marked decline in concern over Environmental Issues, which ranks among the least prioritized topics—surpassed only by the drop in concern over Abortion. This downward trend is consistent across political affiliations—Democrats, Republicans, and Independents alike (data not shown)—and is particularly striking given the recent removal of key climate provisions from the “Big Beautiful Bill.”
  • Education and Foreign Policy (not shown), which rounded out the top ten concerns heading into the election, have both seen increased attention in recent months. Subscribe today for the most recent data to stay ahead of the curve.
